Bringing games to life can be easy and fun! Join Pixel Arts for five days of fun, hands-on workshops to create tabletop and video games with your friends. We’ll draw, sketch, and design sport games like soccer, bowling, tennis, baseball, car racing and more.

Get the tools you need to create a digital interactive story or analog/digital game to join the challenge. What Spaces would you like to explore? What Places matter to you? Can you remix our senses and ways of understanding Space and Place?
This year’s competition is inspired by the Portland Art Museum special exhibition Case Work: Studies in Form, Space & Construction by Allied Works Architecture. Winning entries are played at the Museum and are eligible for awards. Don’t miss your chance for this wonderful opportunity. Register now!

Come to The Pixel Pad every second Saturday of the month. Teens should expect to increase their knowledge in art, animation, computer science, programming and design. You will be able to build a game from scratch, create your own animated characters, develop levels and add sound effects.

Learn free online resources to explore computer coding. Kids can learn to design their own games and play it at home. Families and caretakers also can learn about how to support learning using Code.org and Scratch, as well as other platforms that are free and run on a web browser.
It’s not just a game! It’s a world with infinite possibilities built by you one block at a time. Come and design, create, problem solve and explore the digital world you create yourself using Minecraft.
Create stories, games, and animations on SCRATCH and share with others around the world.
This is a basics of music theory/composition series using online tools for sound and music. Campers will be able to play games that incorporate music into a story’s mood, atmosphere, and general aesthetic. Make sound effects that fit into a game aesthetic that they want to achieve by picking from pre-made graphics or storylines based on ideas generated by their favorite characters and stories.

– Build your own game worlds using cards, paper, tiles, dice, and tokens
– Write a choose-your-own-adventure game with Twine – a game-making software
– Bring your game to life with Scratch – an easy to learn visual programming software
– Combine your projects or continue on with one of them in a free-for-all maker place
– Learn about game developer careers and local game spaces
At the end of the activities, share your games with friends online and at the library!

Join us to explore our spring activities and prepare yourself with best practices for child & community safety, by exploring the basics of game development skills and roles in an educational setting, and by making yourself comfortable in a teaching environment with role play activities!
This training will support those interested in our currently scheduled camps & classes, including:
• Twine workshops at Multnomah County Libraries
• Week-long camps with SEI and Multnomah County Libraries
• Continued weekly programming at a developing library maker space
• Afterschool programming with SEI and Parkrose middle schools
• Social justice-themed game jams for teens
We want seasoned volunteers to attend so that you can share knowledge and present your take on our role play activities.
We want volunteers from our recent winter classes to come and share your new experiences while they’re fresh, and prepare us as we move into our new programming.
